A watch is something you can use to tell the time on. Watches are small and usually have a strap on, so you can wear them around your wrist. Large watches that you hang on the wall are called clocks. It is useful to know the time, so you know when to go to school, or have dinner, or watch your favorite TV show.

Water is the simplest thing you can drink, and is the best for you. All other drinks are just water with something else added to them. Your body is made up of more than half water, so if you don't drink enough you will dry out and become dehydrated.
Watercolor is a style of painting. Watercolour paints usually come as dry cakes of paint, and are mixed with water to use them. The colors in a watercolor painting are soft and translucent and you can see the paper through them.
A waterfall happens when a creek or river flows over a cliff. Waterfalls can be tiny, only a few inches high, or they can be many hundreds of metres high. Waterfalls form when a river flows over rocks that are different hardness. The river will erode the softer rock faster than the harder rock, and over a long time a waterfall gradually appears.

A watering can is used to water plants. It has a handle or two you can hold onto, and the spout often has a lot of holes so the water doesn't wash away the soil around your plants, it falls gently like rain.

Water lilies are flowering plants that live in shallow water. They grow their roots in soil at the bottom of the water, and their leaves and flowers both float on top of the water.

The watermelon is the fruit of a vine originally from South Africa. The fruit can be very big, and has a hard green rind with very juicy, sweet red flesh inside, full of black seeds. Watermelons are wonderful to eat fresh on a hot summer's day.

Something is waterproof if water cannot pass through it or soak into it. The raincoat in the picture is waterproof.

Something is watertight if it can hold a liquid like water without losing any of it. Common things that are watertight include boats, buckets, cups and bottles.
Waves on the surface of the sea or a lake are caused by wind blowing over the surface. The longer the wind has been blowing in the same direction and the deeper the water is, the larger the waves can get. Waves usually only break and make the familiar frothy edge on the wave when they reach the shore. They sometimes break out at sea when they get too steep. Surfers like to surf on breaking waves. The wave in the picture is breaking onto a beach.
